Technology helps to innovate art. New forms of art creation and experience become possible through technological developments. Take virtual reality, for example, or motion capture, robots and 3D printers. Developments are taking place very rapidly. HKU wants to lead the way and quickly apply all this new technology in its art education. The ECT makes this possible, by conducting research, giving advice and sharing knowledge, along with the HKU schools, locations workshops and computer service.
We make sure that HKU continues to lead the way, through having modern facilities and the best workshops.

The ECT conducts research into technological developments, sketches possibilities and shares knowledge and experience about technology in relation to art and creativity. In this way, we stimulate multidisciplinary work connections and show how technology can make the arts better and more beautiful; for example, in one of our Futurelabs.
Well-equipped workshops, studios and rooms are very important to HKU’s education and research. The ECT advises workshop assistants and managers on the purchase of material and technical equipment.
The ECT also brings HKU staff together, to cooperate and to learn from one another about how to use and maintain new and existing technology and equipment. We ensure that knowledge is shared within the organisation and that we keep using new technology in the long term.
