The Master of Arts in Fine Art and Design, programme Fine Art offers a two-year, English language programme. Besides traditional Fine Art forms such as painting, sculpture and photography, the programme focuses on transmedial forms of visual expression and research.
The starting point for the MA programme Fine Art is your individual project proposal (part of the application procedure). Various components of the programme such as critical studies, research studies, studio practice, spatial practice, media theory, and curatorial studies, will incite you to further realize and contextualize your own project. The year is concluded by a curated exhibition and a research report.

The MA Programme Fine Art was previously known as MaHKU and as such has a rich, ten-year history. As of 1 September 2017 it continued in a new guise as a programme of the new HKU Master of Fine Art and Design.
The deadline for applicants from non-EEA countries is 1 April 2019. Make sure to apply on time as overseas students will need extra time to arrange for visa and funding. The programme is open to candidates who have a bachelor degree in a relevant discipline. Since its start in 2004, students from 42 different countries have studied in the programme.
After graduation you will be able to situate your artistic practice in the international field of contemporary art. MA programme Fine Art graduates go on to destinations such as artistic, curatorial and spatial practice, PhD-research, teaching or a combination of these activities.
MA programme Fine Art degrees are internationally acknowledged and accredited by the NVAO. On successful graduation you will be awarded the title Master of Arts in Fine Art and Design.
