Postdoc-programme

Conducting research into, and through art and creativity is a very important part of our education. But how do we actually conduct it? And how do we link the research results to our education?

Postdoc researchers at HKU

HKU has two current postdoc research tracks: one by Christian Roth and one by Maarten Overdijk. Besides conducting research, they also teach. This combination is in line with HKU’s ambition to strengthen the links between education and research.

For these tracks, HKU gains support from the Taskforce for Applied Research (Regieorgaan SIA). This body strengthens the research capacity of universities of applied science.

In addition to these tracks, Micah Hrehovcsik is conducting a postdoc research in the project eHealth Junior: an eight-year programme related to the National Science Agenda.

Research project by Maarten Overdijk: Spatial Narratives

Spatial Narratives. Scenarios for spatial design in Extended Reality is the title of the postdoc-research project by Maarten Overdijk. The project is initiated by the Expertise Centre Creative Technology in collaboration with the school HKU Design.

In Spatial Narratives, Maarten Overdijk develops scenarios for spatial design research in Extended Reality. He runs a design studio for experimenting with XR tools and narrative design methods, based on spatial design challenges derived from the educational and professional practices of HKU Design.

Research by Christian Roth: Transformation through Interactive Narrative Design

Christian Roth wrote his postdoc proposal Transformation through Interactive Narrative Design. This research project is developed by the professorship Performative Creation Processes in collaboration with the school Games & Interaction and the Expertise Centre Research, Innovation and Internationalisation.

Christian merges education and practice-based research, focusing on artistic, paediatric and academic perspectives in relation to the power of transformation, by using applied Interactive Narrative Design (IND).

Former postdoc programmes

  • Arja Veerman managed the research project Creative Research Methodology. How to conduct creative research, and how can we integrate useful knowledge gained by it? These questions were the focus of this project. Read more about this research project.

  • Postdoc researcher Falk Hübner managed the project Common Ground. Practices, philosophy and ethics of research, aimed at the development of a shared framework for various research methodologies inside and outside HKU. Additionally, Hübner developed a methodological model that can serve as a guideline for artistic research. Read more about this project.
