Transdisciplinarity
This research area explores how the artistic practices of creative professionals are becoming increasingly hybrid. What are the implications for working methods and creative processes when disciplines and media are no longer treated as separate or clearly defined? How can work be developed through transmedia, transdisciplinary approaches, or co-creation?
This hybrid approach and mindset are also reflected in collaborations between the arts and other fields, such as healthcare and behavioural design. Audiences and users are increasingly becoming co-creators and are involved much earlier in the creative process.
The Professorship Expanding Artistic Practices (2022–2026) is responsible for research in this area.
Technology
HKU conducts research into emerging technologies and their impact on creative processes. We also investigate the use of technology in education. This research supports the effective application and critical appropriation of technology, while also encouraging critical reflection on technological developments and our relationship with them.
At HKU, technology is a broad field of research encompassing a variety of approaches, ranging from academic and practice-based research to projects driven by specific questions arising from educational practice. Research also examines the role and significance of creative technology in addressing societal challenges.
