Some examples

  • Magazijnmeester is a location-based adventure mobile game. Parents or grandparents with children take a walk through the Dutch city of Veenhuizen. We take them back to the year 1910, where they work as a warehouse manager. Along your way you stumble upon assignments, stories and choices. Be careful what you choose and make the right decisions. Will you prioritise the wellbeing of others, or your own? At the end of the game, you will see how well you performed.

Creators: Elfie Boumans, Kirsten Westerhuis, Ivar Nuij, Danique Veldscholte, Joey van Gool.

  • For a Moment is a short narrative game about how suppressed trauma can return resurface in your life. In a dream-like world, you experience how youw inner tensions are growing, until your only option is to face your fears. An intimate and visual journety about confrontation, acceptation and letting go of painful memories.

Creators: Fanaar Rashid & Flin van Asperen.

  • Don't Blink is a thrilling mobile game where monsters start moving as soon as you blink your eyes. In a dark and deslote research facility you venture deeper and deeper into the unknown. The further you go, the more dangerous the monsters you encounter.
Each run challenges you to keep a grip on your focus and timing, while the tension is slowly mounting. Don't Blink plays on your instincts and turns an everyday reflex, blinking your eyes, into a permanent source of danger.

Creators: Kaylee de Wit, Lucas van der Sloot, Siem Thonen en Joshua Bastiaans.

More about HKU Games

At HKU Games is all about the art of video games: the most complex, engaging and modern form of art. One that cannot exist without a player. Games have a huge transformative power and make an impact on individuals, the work field and society.

The study programmes of HKU Games are the only ones in the Netherlands that are embedded in an art academy. This is reflected in our education, where the basis is formed by traditional creation processes and human-focused design methods, called player-centered design. This design process is focused on the experience, on evoking emotions and stimulating reflection.

At HKU Games you learn how to design games. You can choose to focus on designing the gameplay, the interactive visuals or on the programming of games. At HKU, you are fully free to experiment and learn-by-doing
