Ludo didactics is a term that refers to education based on game principles. Game developers Willem-Jan Renger and Evert Hoogendoorn help you to apply new forms of learning (digital and analogue) in your education. They do so on the basis of ‘digital literacy’ forms that arise from games, apps and the internet.
Willem-Jan Renger is Head of HKU Innovation Lab and one of the first ludo didactics experts. His work focuses on the possibilities of behavioural change through learning processes. Rather than being taught through textbooks, these learning processes are based on design principles and methods used in game design. He specialises in the application possibilities of games in areas like education and medicine, besides in entertainment.
Evert Hoogendoorn is programme leader Ludo Didactics, game designer and lecturer at HKU. Evert promotes the application of principles from the game world in education.
The two authors are also giving a summer school for mixed groups of professionals (education, heritage, healthcare and other sectors), where you spend an intensive week learning to realise your first design. You can also opt for an individual course. Find more information here.
