The sculptor and draughtsman, based in Amsterdam, is widely known for his monumental sculptures made of styrofoam and polyurethane foam—materials usually associated with insulation. His life-sized, colourful works are inspired by significant events in (art) history. He exhibits both nationally and internationally.
A new dimension
According to the HKU Fine Art team, he is exactly the kind of resident they were looking for: 'While previous residents primarily worked with two-dimensional media, Folkert introduces a new dimension: he works from a distinctly sculptural practice, opening up fresh perspectives for students on how to transform materials and ideas into adventurous forms.'
In addition, he is internationally active, with an extensive network and a dynamic practice of collaborations and exhibitions across the globe. This gives students insight into the art world beyond the Netherlands, as well as opportunities to learn from his experience in building and sustaining such a network.'
