The Treasure of Utrecht

Sunday June 28 from 16.00 to 17.30 hrs
Domplein and Mariaplaats

Sunday afternoon, 28 June is the big day: the grand finale of the HKU Utrecht Conservatoire’s 150th anniversary celebrations. In the closing spectacle, *De Schat van Utrecht* (The Treasure of Utrecht), students, pupils from Utrecht’s primary schools, singers and musicians from across Utrecht will breathe new life into the old masters. They will demonstrate how music has the power to bring people together and literally get them moving. At 4.00 pm, a grand musical parade will set off from Domplein to Mariaplaats. Upon arrival at Mariaplaats, all the musicians and singers present will take their places on stage. They will first perform a graphic score created by Utrecht primary school pupils in their classrooms over the past few months. This is followed by the moment we’ve all been eagerly awaiting: the re-premiere of a composition long thought lost, written by Utrecht-born Louis Andriessen back in 1970 for the city of Utrecht: The Treasure of Scarlet Rackham. You won’t want to miss this event; be there, and best of all: you’re welcome to sing and play along!
