Touching (the) Strangeness

On 19 May, Marloeke will defend her dissertation Touching (the) Strangeness: Exploring Touching as Methodology in Artistic Research. This will be followed by the festive opening of her exhibition of the same name. The exhibition will be open to the public from 13 to 31 May at Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd in Bunnik, just outside Utrecht.

Touch as a mode of being–doing–thinking

In her artistic research project Marloeke van der Vlugt explores touch as a mode of being–doing–thinking, moving beyond physical sensation or proximity. Working from an interdisciplinary artistic practice, she connects knowledge from the performing arts, fine art, and scenography with theories from phenomenology, philosophy of art, and healthcare studies.

About the exhibition

The exhibition presents a selection of the experiments Marloeke developed during her research, revised in dialogue with Oud Amelisweerd. In this way, a relational, contemporary, embodied artistic practice unfolds, exploring questions of care and ethics. These questions arise through the process of making, experiencing, and participating in the artwork.

Meaningful Artistic Research

Meaningful Artistic Research (MAR) unites HKU University of the Arts and the University of Humanistic Studies around a shared conviction: artistic and creative processes generate unique forms of knowledge. This knowledge plays a vital role in imagining and developing caring, just, and sustainable ways of shaping society.
