The Rule the World exhibition marks the closure of the residency that visual artist and HKU alumna Bobbi Essers has at the Fine Art programme of HKU. In the past six months, Bobbi has been working among the Fine Art students, talked with them in their workspaces, organised workshops and created, among others, a series of small presentations in the Pastoe entrance hall. She also invited five young artists from her own network to give lectures and studio visits.

Bobbi Essers (2000) graduated in 2022, after which she embarked on an eventful career. She won various prizes, including the Royal Award for Modern Painting, and participated in exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad. Her paintings, based on analogue snapshots, evoke a feeling of intimacy and emotional connection.
AIR Pastoe is a unique artist-in-residence spot, made possible by the generous support from the Keep an Eye Foundation. Each year since 2021, an artist takes up residence in a workspace at HKU location Pastoe Fabriek, right amidst the workspaces of the HKU Fine Art students. The artist works here on the development of their own visual works, while involving the students in their process and artistic experiences.
