The centrepiece of this programme is the “Three Medieval Taghs” for viola and percussion by Armenian composer Tigran Mansurain (1939). Based on the works of the Armenian priest and ethnomusicologist Komitas these three songs (Tagh to Crucifixion, Tagh to the Funeral of the Lord and Tagh to Resurrection (Havik)) tell the Easter story, through serene voices of medieval orthodox monks.

To accompany this work, the duo spent the past months composing the rest of this programme. Using improvisation as their primary research method, the two spent many hours meditating, reflecting and expressing themselves on their instruments, with the goal of capturing that which can only be felt. Together they discovered the connection between music, space and communal silence. The end result, a composition of ideas, not notes. Music as unique as the moment in which it is created.

Just a note: this concert is the result of a school project, a collaboration between the Domkerk and HKU.
