What is contract tuition at HKU Utrechts Conservatorium?

At HKU Utrechts Conservatorium, you can sign up for individual contract tuition, which involves taking a number of lessons with one of our teachers.

  • The contract tuition options are determined by the availability of teachers. This means that not all instruments and subjects are available. As a contract student, you cannot follow the regular curriculum. Instead, you can combine several types of lesson, such as instrument lessons (main subject) and theory lessons, provided these are offered through contract tuition. The maximum number of lessons per course is 24. There is no minimum number.

    • Main subject lessons are €75 an hour
    • Theory lessons are €12.50 an hour

  • Admissions deadlines

    • Applications for main subjects must be submitted before 15 September. A decision will be made before 1 November.
    • ​Applications for theory lessons can be submitted until 15 August. A decision will be made before 1 September.

    Lesson starting dates

    • Instrument lessons start in Block 2 (November).
    • Theory lessons start in early September.

  • If you wish to take part in individual contract tuition at HKU Utrechts Conservatorium, you must have a Bachelor or Master of Music, or qualify for admission to HKU Utrechts Conservatorium for the coming academic year.

    The Director of HKU Utrechts Conservatorium ultimately decides whether you can take part in contract tuition.

Applying for contract tuition

You can apply for a contract course through the OSIRIS program. When applying, you can submit a request for the main subject and the number of lessons. You can also choose which teacher you would like to take lessons with, although there is no guarantee that you will be placed with that teacher.

Once you have submitted your application, the Director of HKU Utrechts Conservatorium will decide whether you are eligible for an individual contract course. You will be notified of the decision by email.
