The prestigious Edison Award music prizes went to two of our alumni from Utrechts Conservatorium this year: Janine Jansen and Kika Sprangers.

The award ceremony was held for the 65th year, on Monday 6 October in AFAS Theatre in Leusden. Janine Jansen received the Edison Classical Award for her overall catalogue, as recognition of her impressive musical career and contribution to classical music. Kika Sprangers was awarded with the Edison Jazz Public Prize for her fourth studio album (In)finity in the National category, further establishing her status as top jazz performer.

About the Edisons

The Edisons are one of the oldest and most prestigious music awards of the Netherlands. They are given out each year to artists and musicians who excelled in their profession, both nationally and internationally. The prize is a symbol for quality, creativity and artistic success, and is generally regarded as an important acknowledgement within the Dutch music industry.

About Janine Jansen and Kika Sprangers

Janine Jansen sgraduated in 1998 at Utrechts Conservatorium and has since become an internationally renowned violin player and prominent chamber musician. She leads the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht and received the Johannes Vermeerprijs in 2018.

Kika Sprangers graduated in 2016 at Utrechts Conservatorium. She grew up in Nijmegen and already took the stage at a young age. She now leads her own ensembles and got the title Young VIP in 2018 a title bestowed on promising jazz talents.
