Exhibition Royal Award for Modern Painting 2026
For the 155th edition of the Royal Award for Modern Painting 2026, 334 artists submitted their work. The jury, chaired by Mirjam Westen, nominated fifteen promising artists, including four HKU alumni: Elma Čavčić, Anthony Chiou, Lorian Gwynn and Jochem Mestriner.

On Tuesday 3 February, His Majesty the King will present the awards to three winners at the Royal Palace Amsterdam. An exhibition featuring a selection of works by these emerging artists will be on display at the Royal Palace Amsterdam from 4 February to 29 March.

The Award was established in 1871 by King William III as the Royal Grant for Free Painting. As such, the Royal Award is one of the oldest art prizes in the Netherlands and provides a platform for promising young artists.
