Onzichtbare Draad van Verwantschap
The curator of the exhibition, Erwin Slegers of HKU, explains: “In a time in which visibility can be protective as well as dangerous, this exhibition is an exploration of ways in which people can connect, resist, and recollect – often outside the view of the greater masses.”

Each of the three artists expresses a different aspect of these invisible connections:
  • Kim Engelsbel depicts the protester who jumps on the barricades to protect his right to demonstrate.
  • Uliana Gromyko shows the connection between brother and sister whose story is being rewritten by technology and distance.
  • Glenelys Josefina investigates textured hair as a living symbol of identity, heritage and social pressure – and how her own choices have been partly shaped by colonial beauty standards.
Together these forms are a fabric of personal and collective stories – threads of communality, resistance and self-preservation. They invite the audience to perceive that which is not always visible, and to feel how we are united by the invisible.”

No entrance fee is required to visit this exhibition ,which is on display during the City Hall’s regular opening hours (Stadhuisbrug 1 in Utrecht), from 5 November to 28 November 2025.

The expo will have its official opening on 5 November by Saskia Kluitmans, director of Cultural Affairs for the City of Utrecht. HKU professor Fabiola Camuti will further clarify the themes of the exhibition in her opening speech.
