How Tim Schouten's theatre plays challenges his audience

HKU Theatre alumnus Tim Schouten has, what is called, a hybrid practice: he is not only a theatre director, but also a show host and actor, on television, in theatres, and for his own community Dear T, of which he is also the artistic leader.
How Tim Schouten's theatre plays challenges his audience
Tim graduated in 2018 at HKU Theatre in Acting. Since then, he has been working as a freelancer in the cultural sector. In this video portrait, we see him in Theater Kikker with his performance Sorrie Morrie.

Theatre producer

With his Utrecht-based youth theatre community Dear T, Tim produces performances for both children and adults, aiming to challenge his audience to show compassion for a variety of characters. One of his plays was a fairy tale about two princes who fall in love with each other: Het Prinsensprookje (or ‘The Princes’ Fairy Tale’). Another play featured a character called Morrie, who is dealing with big emotions, called Sorrie Morrie (both are for age 6 and above).

Inspiration

As a theatre producer, Tim likes to be inspired by children. Sometimes this can lead to a play for a younger audience, and other times he shares the unbiased children's perspective with adults. One example of the latter is Zie de Mens (age 10+): a musical documentary performance with live vocals, and audio from talks with children about the ‘Big Questions’.

Connected with HKU

In his professional life, Tim is still connected with HKU. He closely cooperates with many (former) HKU people, such as actors, playwrights, designers and music makers.

More info about Tims productions is found on (his Dutch websites) timsite.nl and deart.nl
