Platform for open innovation

HKU is working on a platform for open innovation. If you’re interested, then join us!

Why create a platform for open innovation?

The world around us is getting ever more complex and there are big social challenges. And things are developing at an incredible pace. So organisations, businesses and people have to get better and better at coping with continual change. And the problems we face can no longer be solved through just one discipline or domain. In response to this, HKU is working on a platform for open innovation. Through it, we aim to join forces with organisations and HKU students, lecturers and researchers, to work in an innovative way on solutions for complex social problems.

A new collaboration model

At HKU, we believe in a collaboration model in which you, the innovation partner, play an active role with other partners in the design process with students, lecturers and experts. Then you, too, can master the creative innovation processes and methods we use at HKU in our education and research. And your own knowledge, experience and networks become integrated with those of others.

Start: September 2020

September 2020 sees the start of the first education programmes at HKU that take a new approach to collaborating with organisations in Utrecht and elsewhere. And your organisation can join in too.

Who’s it for?

If you’re working with a business or social organisation and can identify with the following statements, then the platform for open innovation is right for you.

  • I know that to be really innovative we should collaborate more with other domains, but how do you do that?
  • I have the feeling I could learn much more from these students – and they from us
  • How can I expand the capacity for creative thinking and activity in our organisation?
  • How can we better explore opportunities, along with the people concerned?
  • We’d like to become more skilled ourselves in using creative methods

Is it really right for your organisation?

We do it together. However, we do ask something of you and of your organisation. Find out whether this new HKU initiative is right for you and your organisation:

  • Your organisation wants to work on (large-scale) social questions, in an open, neutral and creative environment
  • You want to expand your organisation’s capacity for creative innovation and change
  • You can free up time and budget for one or more people to take an active part in designing and learning from one another
