Graphic Design Student Ymke Slob has won the Royal Jaarbeurs Poster Contest 2025. Ever since 1917, Utrecht’s main event hall has their official poster being designed by an upcoming Dutch design talent. And so, HKU students were challenged to design this year’s poster.

The winners were announced at the award ceremony on 27 May. First prize went to Ymke Slob, fourth-year student of Graphic Design. Second prize went to Emma Eickhout (Graphic Design), and the third prize to Sam Euverman (Graphic Design). Their prized designs can soon be admired in and around the Jaarbeurs hall.
This year’s theme was: ‘Inspiring meetings at Jaarbeurs’. Students were invited to submit their visual translation of this theme by creating a poster that represented innovation, sustainability, community and the rich history of Jaarbeurs. According to the jury, Ymke presented the most powerful image: “A well-thought out design that perfectly combines the subject and the form.”

Since 1917, Jaarbeurs has the tradition of asking prominent Dutch designers to create their poster. With this annual context, this tradition is honoured by inviting upcoming talents from HKU to present their designs.
