The Sky Still Stands
Six recently graduated artists from HKU Fine Art have been selected for Maidentrip: a presentation of twelve young makers. This expo is part of The Sky Still Stands — the opening exhibition of the brand-new Showdepot for art collection DE.GROEN in Arnhem, which opened its doors on 17 September. The six HKU alumni are Eline van der Steen, Inne Feenstra, Joost Hutjes, Julia van Dijck, Linne Guldemond and Rowan de Beaufort. They are exhibiting alongside six alumni from BEAR ArtEZ.

Platform for recently graduated talent

Maidentrip was initiated by the DE.GROEN Fine Art Collection to give recently graduated artists a platform at the opening of the new Showdepot. Four scouts made a preselection for founder Marjolein de Groen from the graduating classes of 2024 and 2025 at both HKU Fine Art and BEAR ArtEZ. From this preselection, she eventually chose eight artists: four from HKU and four from ArtEZ. During the 2026 graduation exhibitions, four more artists were added, two of whom are from HKU: Rowan de Beaufort and Eline van der Steen. The result is an exhibition featuring recently graduated artists from both academies, enabling young talent in the early stage of their careers to shine among the works by more established names in the collection.

The Sky Still Stands can be seen across four floors of the new Showdepot and combines existing works from the DE.GROEN collection with new work by the selected alumni. Nature, wonder and the consoling power of art are central to the presentation.

Featured in newspaper De Volkskrant

National newspaper De Volkskrant was among the first to visit the new Showdepot and highlighted the exhibition and the space it creates for young talent in its article. The title The Sky Still Stands refers to what remains standing amid great unrest and change – such as the consoling power of art and our sense of wonder towards nature. The exhibition combines DE.GROEN’s existing collection of around 500 works with new work by the twelve recently graduated artists, spread across the four floors of the building.

Flood of prizes for Fine Art

The selection for Maidentrip is one of the many notable recognitions that HKU Fine Art alumni received during Exposure 2026 this year, ranging from the Dooyewaard Stipendium to the Flowering The Future Prize.
