Utrecht shines again during the fifth edition of light art festival I Light U, from 9 January to 1 February 2026. Students of Image and Media Technology turn the area around Central Station into a magical spectacle of national and international light art. Students of HKU Games and HKU Theatre (Interactive Performance Design) are also contributing to this edition.

I Light U Festival is an annual event that marks its fifth edition in 2026. This light art festival turns the surroundings of Utrecht central Station into a magical display of national and international light art installations. Visitors are invited to explore the artworks in their own way, with no fixed route or entrance fees.

Multiple academies

The festival presents a diverse mix of works from artists and young talents, including alumni and students of HKU. There are creations by Image and Media Technology students from every year of study. Also on display at Moreelsebrug is the work Rooted, made by two students of Interactive Performance Design (HKU Theatre) and 2 students of HKU Games. The soundscape of this truly multidisciplinary artwork is a musical creation of an IMT alumnus.
