Third-year acting students at the international theater school festival in Rabat
Rabat International Theater Schools Festival
The Rabat International Theater Schools Festival, officially known as the Festival International Des Ecoles Superieures d'Art Dramatique, is an international gathering for young theater artists, students, and faculty from drama schools around the world, featuring performances, workshops, and exchanges. This year, HKU Theater is sending a group of students to the festival for the seventh time.
An Educational International Experience
At the festival, students learn to present an existing production in a new context and to an audience that is new to them. Performing abroad—for an audience accustomed to seeing different kinds of productions, speaking a different language, and coming from a different cultural context—requires a different approach to acting and a different style of presentation. The students observe the work of students from other theater schools, engage in discussions with them, attend workshops, and bring their experiences back to Utrecht. During conversations with Acting students from HKU Theater, they share what they encountered in Rabat and how they overcame potential challenges.
TOTAL LOSS
On November 1, eleven third-year Acting students will perform a play that was staged once in May 2026 at Het Nationale Theater in The Hague: TOTAL LOSS. The play, directed by Jorn Heijdenrijk, is a series of failed attempts, absurd logic, and just enough confidence to keep going—even when everything could collapse completely at any moment.
