Reggie Washington is an artist of rare breed who can play acoustic and electric basses, who can sing, who can mix Jazz, Funk & World Music while combining the life of leader and sideman. At October 15 he will visit the Utrecht Conservatory for a master class bass.

He became known touring, recording and performing with Steve Coleman, Branford arsalis, Roy Hargrove, Chico Hamilton, Oliver Lak, Cassandra Wilson, Don Byron, Jean-Paul Bourelly, Lester Bowie, Meshell Ndegeocello to name a few. In 2005, Reggie began successfully touring with his own bands. They were a mix of American & European musicians as Ravi Coltrane, Gene Lake, Stéphane Galland, Jef Lee Johnson, Erwin Vann, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, E.J. Strickland, Jozef Dumoulin, Matthew Garrison, Marcus Strickland, Jason Lindner, Poogie Bell and Ronny Drayton.

In 2015, Reggie started touring throughout Europe with his project “Rainbou Shadow – A tribute to Jef lee Johnson” featuring guitarists Marvin Sewell or David Gilmore, drummer Patrick Dorcéan & DJ Grazzhoppa on turntables. They’ve released their second album in 2017 and have continued to tour all over Europe. In 2018 Reggie decided to explore the acoustic bassist side of his personality. For this new quartet “Vintage New Acoustic”, he enlisted the services of multi-keyboardist Bobby Sparks, drummer E.J. Strickland and saxophonist Fabrice Alleman to create something NEW shile paying tribute to the legends he has shared the stage with.

A versatile, 360-degree musician, Reggie plays Jazz, Funk, R&B, Blues, World and Experimental music with a natural and contagious energy. His bass lines are both sophisticated and explicit. He is dillgent in his work and enjoys mixing people of different cultures as a way to enchance music by learning from others and sharing ideas.

Reggie remains the favorite bassist of many great jazz stars and continues to play with Roy Hargrove, Archie Shepp, Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Lisa Simone, Regina Carter, Robin Mc Kelle, gospel diva Liz McComb and Mike Clark.
