HKU

Photography trains you to become a professional with your own personal story in the photography world.

What do you learn?

You want your photos to be seen and to have impact. The HKU Photography programme gives you the tools to be able to achieve this. You develop your own style and learn digital and analogue techniques for image processing, photography, presentation and printing. During your studies, you explore the relationship between photography and reality. You are challenged to reflect critically on the effect of images and the photographic idiom. You learn to research and reflect on your own work and that of others. You can photograph existing situations, create your own world in the studio or work with existing images. You will also learn about the business side of the profession and how to build up a network and a portfolio.

After the course

Most graduates soon find work as a freelancer with companies or studios, or else start up their own studio. Some work as autonomous artists. Graduates photograph for publishers or magazines, for example. Another popular activity is developing personal projects, which are then presented in books and exhibitions.
