JamToday network now admitting new partners for game based innovation

April 10, 2017

The JamToday network (of which HKU is a partner) is looking for interested organisations to become part of this network focusing on innovative crossovers.

During the event JamToday+: The Future of Gamification in Brussels on 5-6 April, the partners presented their results and announced the extension of the programme in 2017 and 2018. The theme for 2017 will be ‘The Future of Food’, and new game jams are already underway. In 2018 the theme will be based on the 2018 European year of Cultural Heritage. Interested in joining? So what is JamToday?

Over the last 3 years the JamToday network has developed methods and tools to run game jams for applied games across Europe and beyond. A game jam is a creative pressure cooker during which participants rapidly create prototypes of game concepts. The method allows for the creation of many concepts in a short time to quickly find out what works and what doesn't.

The JamToday network brought together gamification experts and stakeholders from various fields and professions. More than 950 participants joined one of the 35 JamToday game jams, which generated more than 200 game prototypes focusing on one of the following themes:

- Improving ICT skills
- Adopting healthier lifestyles
- Supporting the learning of mathematics

Goals of JamToday

JamToday is the first pan- European network dedicated to applied game design. It brings together creative clusters, game companies, education and research institutes, public sector institutions and municipalities from various sectors, fields and expertise for organising game jams across Europe.

The goal is to design and deploy game-based approaches to enrich classic education and close the gap between applied games and their fields of application.
