The faculty promotes the cohesion between the different courses and study variations through regular collaboration between actors, theatre makers, writers, designers, digital designers and drama teachers, in projects and theatre productions. There is also collaboration with other faculties of the HKU. To this end, special optional programmes, courses, researches, interdisciplinary projects, events, publications and productions are set up and produced.
Through the project office, the faculty acquires commissions from the professional field for teams of third and fourth-year students as an introduction to their own professional practice. All students also do an internship (individually or in groups). For Theatre & Education students, this is an international internship.
Academy Theatre
The Academy Theatre is the best equipped flat-floor theatre in Utrecht. Both the main and the small auditorium of the Academy Theatre fulfil key functions within the faculty, providing space for lessons and the production and programming of faculty performances. You will be introduced to all facets of the theatre industry: production, programming, stage management, publicity and cooperation.
Theatre workshops
There are workshops for theatre design, stage management, digital applications and costumes/make-up. These have been set up to support the training and to promote independent study. They provide the opportunity to experiment and to use the facilities, including the materials, both during and outside regular lesson times.
Digital laboratory and computer workshops
For students of BAT Design for Virtual Theatre and Games, and BDes Theatre Design, a digital laboratory has been set up. For the students of the writers’ course, the faculty has a writing workshop. Students from all courses can make use of various computer workshops, for things like word processing, Internet and e-mail.
Library & Information Service/Media Library
The faculty has good documentation and information facilities. The media library has study workshops and computer facilities with Internet connections. There is also a theory lesson space, with facilities for watching audiovisual media.
