During their studies, students learn to use technology in a creative context in a meaningful way. They gain plenty of experience through project work in teams. Studying at the Faculty of Art, Media & Technology means learning by doing, learning by working together and learning through reflection.
Within the faculty, plenty of attention is given to the development and dissemination of knowledge relevant to designing in the creative market. Research takes place within the course, the course organisation and the two lectureships at the faculty.
The faculty provides courses at three academic levels: bachelor courses, masters courses and research degrees. The courses provided cannot be taken anywhere else in the Netherlands at such a high level.
It is also possible to take the Master of Music after one of the Bachelor of Music courses. At this faculty, you can also do an internationally recognised research degree (MPhil or PhD) by participating in (international) design and research projects.
We encourage our students to go abroad for studies, an internship or a project. The faculty’s international orientation can also be seen in the number of foreign students and teachers, English-language and internationally recognised courses, and international educational and research projects.
Professional education is not possible without professional facilities. The faculty has a great many practical rooms for computer use and studios for all sorts of applications. There is also a well-stocked media library. Every student has their own e-mail address and URL and a very fast Internet connection.
The project office Xchange Projects occupies an important place in the faculty and its courses. The project office is the link between the course work and professional practice. Xchange Projects provides the contact with external clients for projects by students from all the different courses. It brings the students’ work to the attention of festivals, exhibitions and concerts.
XProf functions as a mediator between businesses, students and ex-students. It holds pitches for clients and brainstorms for businesses. Xchange Professional also organises regular events for students, alumni and businesses.
An intranet site – kmtweb – has been set up to support the courses and the faculty organisation. It provides all the relevant information for students and staff.
The faculty is based in Hilversum, which is a central location with regard to Dutch media and creative businesses. Many people working or studying at the faculty live in Utrecht or Amsterdam. This also applies to most of the students. The school is five minutes' walk from the railway station Hilversum Sportpark, from which there are 4 trains to Utrecht and 4 to Amsterdam every hour (the journey takes 15 minutes and 35 minutes respectively).
