In MAPD you make performances, experiences and events. MAPD prepares you to design, produce and manage performance design processes in context. You are involved in intensive teamwork with artists from different backgrounds. With your colleague students you look for new forms and expressions for various audiences, engaging with a variety of contexts such as media, culture, science, health, agriculture.
MAPD is unique in combining expertise from contemporary theatre with scenography, applied theatre game design and arts management. In the course you deepen your artistic practice through the study of contemporary dramaturgies (site-specific theatre, community arts, theatre and education, and interaction and game design) and creativity theory. In our Medialab you use technology and new media as means to investigate principles of interaction and intervention. You strengthen your practice with courses in entrepreneurship where you design a business profile which suits your artistic aims. In MAP-D you develop a clear vision on the relationship between the arts and society today.
We offer you an inspiring learning environment in and outside our school. Our coaches are artists and researchers from various discipline backgrounds working in arts practice themselves. You will work in the studios of HKU and its theatre partners in Utrecht as well as on various locations in the city of Utrecht and in the public space. MAPD works closely together with theatres, festivals, cultural and commercial partners and other artschools in the Netherlands and abroad.
