If you wish to study Fine Art for one or two semesters at HKU, University of the Arts Utrecht, you are welcome in the third year of the Bachelor course of Fine Art (four-year degree course). The Bachelor of Fine Art course is practical and substantive. The development of your own visually expressive criteria, demands and rules forms the starting point for your artistic vision, and therefore for your work. You will be working at our annex at the Tractieweg 41, where you will be assigned a studio space, unless your main subject is Printmaking, when you will work in our main building at the IBB-laan.
The Bachelor of Fine Art course offers you an opportunity to study as individually as possible, working in your own studio space. This requires a lot of perseverance and a critical attitude, and you must be able to work independently.
In studying your main subject of Digital Media, Drawing, Intermedia, Printmaking, Painting, or Sculpture, you will not have lessons in the strict sense. You will work independently and your teachers will visit you and your studio on a regular, scheduled basis. We would like you to bring a digital portfolio to show teachers at the beginning of your exchange. At the end of each semester, you will make an overall presentation for the evaluation.
During your stay at the School of Fine Art, you can also take part in the theoretical lessons in art and culture, which are mostly bilingual. A life room for drawing is available at the main building. There is also a weekly meeting of all the fine art exchange students with their mentor. The school’s situation in the middle of the Netherlands is an ideal base for travelling through Western Europe to visit many museums, galleries and festivals, et cetera.
