Theory
As part of a group of maximum 20 students, you receive 32 theory lessons of 75 minutes each. On passing the theory section, you receive an exemption for the theoretical part of the entrance examination for the Bachelor's course.

Main subject
You must register as a contract student for main subject lessons in instrumental or vocal. The contract course comprises 32 individual lessons of 45 minutes each. In consultation with your tutor and lecturer, you can participate in group activities of the Bachelor's course, such as master classes, work weeks and projects.

Musical Talent Academy
Utrechts Conservatorium works together with the Musical Talent Academy in providing the main instrument subjects within the department of Classical Music. The lessons and other activities of the Musical Talent Academy are held at the Utrecht Conservatory.

Various lecturers who give classes at the Utrecht Conservatory form part of the teaching team of the Musical Talent Academy. This makes for easier progress to the Preparatory or Bachelor's Course. The Musical Talent Academy is an independent, autonomous organisation.

Besides theory classes, students of the foundation course Education in Music also receive lessons in singing and piano. Singing lessons are given in small groups.

To take the theory classes, you must register as a student of the Preparatory course. Supplementary to the Preparatory course, you must register as a contract student in order to take the main subject lessons.
