Application deadline for the academic year 2012-2013 is 9 April 2012. After this date enrolment is on the basis of availability only.
To be admitted to Utrechts Conservatorium you have to pass an entrance examination comprising a theoretical and a practical part. These exams are taken separately. Once your application via Studielink has been processed, you will be notified of the dates and times at which your examinations are planned. This scheduling is binding.
The result of the theoretical part is incorporated into a recommendation, which is passed on to the committee for the practical examination. You will be notified of the result of the practical element verbally, with an explanation.
Based on the two examinations you may be given the following recommendations:
• you have a place on the bachelor programme
• you have a place on the foundation course
• you have been rejected
Whether you are actually admitted also depends on the number of places available for your course and the level of other candidates. You will be notified in writing as to whether you have a place.
The following is an overview of dates on which the various entrance examinations are scheduled. This allows you to keep your schedule free. The planning is non negotiable.
You will be charged a € 37,50 accompaniment fee for each entrance examination. This applies to each main subject (trumpet and piano is therefore 2 x € 37,50). We maintain a 'no-pay-no-play' policy. No refunds are possible. After your application you will be informed as to how to pay these fees digitally.
The Faculty Board assesses the validity of foreign diplomas. All foreign diplomas, certificates and lists of marks should be supplied in the Dutch, English, French or German language; other languages are not accepted.
All students whose mother tongue is not English, who intend to follow their studies in the English language are required to take a language test to show that their mastery of the language is sufficient to succesfully complete their studies. There are two standard tests:
a. The TOEFL-test (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
b. The IELTS-test (International English Language Testing System)
Re. a. For the Bachelor of Music Course you need a score of 550. The TOEFL registration code, which should be filled in for the Utrecht School of the Arts is 7214.
Re. b. You need a minimum score of 6.0 for the Bachelor of Music Course.
More information about the tests can be found on the internet www.toefl.org. and www.ielts.org. Proof of the result of a test should be sent after you have filled out the online application via Studielink. Only then may an entrance exam take place.
Please be aware that the entrance examination can be a rather informal situation and not a concert as you may perhaps be used to. The members of the committee have a lot of forms to compete and will be leafing through your papers from time to time. Another entrance examination may also be taking place in the room next to you.
Indicate which subject lecturer you would prefer. We will take your preference into account but cannot guarantee a place.

It is not possible for candidates from the EER to apply for admission by means of a sound carrier.
BMus students applying from non-EER countries are offered an exception. Non-EER students may send in a YouTube film as a pre-selection. Students who pass this pre-selection will be invited to attend the actual entrance examination.
The examining committee decides with regard to dispensations. There is an individual assessment determining which subjects you have to take in full and which in part. This is the case if, for example, you have studied Musicology or have followed a music course elsewhere.
Applications should be submitted to the tutor after admission.
The result of the entrance examination is made known and stated orally and is later confirmed in writing. Passing the entrance examination, however, does not necessarily guarantee placement. Due to the large number of potential students, it is not possible to place students in some courses and with some teachers. You receive official notice from the Faculty Board on whether you have a place and, if so, for which course, which year and which main lecturer at your home address.
Prospective students are ensured of enrollment if placement has been obtained, provided all necessary paper work for enrollment and registration is complete. Once enrollment is finalized students receive application certificates and an invoice to pay for college or course fees.
Once you have been admitted to the Bachelor of Music, you will need to arrange your visa and residence permit.
