Following your application in Studielink, you need to send us:
• your curriculum vitae,
• results of your Toefl- of Ielts-test, and
• letter of motivation in which you indicate your study goals; i.e. what exactly you want to achieve with the full-time or part-time Master of Music course. (Formats for letter and CV below.)
If your letter and CV are accepted by the entrance-audition committee, you will receive an invitation for an intake session, which will take place as of May.
Admission deadline: April 9th.
During the entrance exam you will need to demonstrate your work, your experience and your talent. You will receive information regarding the exact procedure with the invitation for your entrance exam.
The intake session comprises an audition which, when results are positive, will be followed by an interview. For this audition, the admission committee will expect you to prepare a programme of around one hour, with four or five compositions from various style periods. During the audition, you will perform pieces from this programme for approximately twenty minutes.
For HKU music students, the final bachelor’s exam in your main subject will count as the audition for the Master of Music.
Foreign students whose mother tongue is not English must take an IELTS test (min. 6,5) or a TOEFL test (min. 575). Proof of the results of the test must be sent along with the application. Only then may an entrance exam take place. Foreign students who can prove they are fluent in the Dutch language, both in speech and in writing, will not have to take an English test.
There are 2 standard tests:
a. The TOEFL-test (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
b. The IELTS-test (International English Language Testing System)
Re a. For the Master of Music course the score is 575. The TOEFL registration code, which should be filled in for Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU), is 7214.
Re b. You need a minimum score of 6.5 for the Master of Music course.
More information about the tests can be found on www.toefl.org. and www.ielts.org.
For each entrance exam, €37,50 will be charged for administration and accompaniment. This goes for each main subject (i.e. trumpet and piano adds up to 2 x €37,50). The ‘no pay, no play’ rule applies here, i.e. if you haven’t paid, you cannot take an entrance exam. Refunds are not possible. After your application you will receive information about the digital payment of these costs.
